Sony's innovative micro console will be going on sale in the US on October 14 and will be landing in Europe on November 15.

The little box, which once upon a time was called the Vita TV, has been on sale in Sony's native Japan since November 2013, where it's been an unmitigated success.

When it officially goes on sale in the wider world for $99 or €99 it will offer owners access to over 1,000 gaming titles from the existing PlayStation canon. And, to sweeten the deal, Sony on Tuesday confirmed via a tweet that in Europe the PlayStation TV will come bundled with three digital titles for no extra cost.

US owners on the other hand can pay an extra $40 and will get a DualShock 3 controller, HDMI cable, 8GB memory card and a copy of 'Lego The Movie' thrown in.

The PlayStation TV connects to the internet via a home wi-fi network but also supports Ethernet and has USB ports and slots for Vita game and memory cards too. It wirelessly syncs with a PlayStation 4 console so that you can finish playing a game on another screen in another room in the house if you've been kicked out of the living room for hogging the main TV set.

But as well as mirroring a PS4, it can also access a host of PS3, PSP, PS Vita and PS One games through the PlayStation Now subscription-based games streaming service.

Just plug in a DualShock controller and you're good to go. And of course, as Sony's online content isn't restricted to gaming, the device will also be able to access music and video content too, making it a very serious competitor to set top boxes such as Amazon's recently launched Fire TV and, if reports are to be believed, the next generation, gaming-focused Apple TV.
