Preparation for a mass transition to the latest 'Pokémon' game has begun, as Nintendo announces plans to close the 'Black and White' sub-series's online component after 'Pokémon X' and 'Pokémon Y' arrive in October.

Pokémon Global Link was established in 2010 and has been used to connect players of 'Pokémon Black,' 'Pokémon White,' and the numbered sequels that followed in 2012.

But the old network will be completely shut down come January 14, 2014, as a new Global Link is being created for 'X and Y,' the pair of which are the first Pokémon games for Nintendo 3DS, due for worldwide release on October 12.

Players of the new titles will be able to transfer some of their existing Global Link achievements and records by registering for the new iteration with their existing user name, explains network site pokemon-gl.com.

As part of the relaunch process, the current Global Link will close temporarily between October 1 and 12, registrations will be suspended and the Global Link demo retired from October 12, and the service will not be able to accept additional 'tucked in' Pokémon from December 10.

Basically, get ready for 'Pokémon X & Y.'
