Epson has launched a new printer, the Stylus Pro WT7900, which is the world's first water-based inkjet printer able to print white colour. The large format printer uses Epson's proprietary Epson UltraChrome High Dynamic-Range (HDR) ink with white.
Designed specifically for packaging proof printing applications, the WT7900 allows flexographic and gravure printing firms to simulate proofs on inkjet coated media efficiently and affordably. The large format inkjet printer uses a 9-colour ink set to produce a wide colour gamut, including water-based white ink, to deliver high density white tints and overlays.
The printer also comes with orange and green inks. This ink uses the Organic Hollow Resin Particle Technology, which forces light to scatter randomly, producing the illusion of seeing the colour white. The WT7900 features two print modes — Surface and Reverse Print with Raster Image Processor software, which fulfills a wide variety of proofing requirements.
Surface print mode operates by printing white ink first before overlaying with other colours, making it ideal for printing on transparent or opaque media. Reverse print mode works on the opposite by first printing other colours before overlaying with white. It has a print resolution of 1440 X 1440 dpi.
