Xiaomi is set to launch a new smartphone later this week in China. Dubbed as Redmi S2, the smartphone is aimed at selfie enthusiasts. Xiaomi even claims it is the best selfie phone in its Redmi lineup. The company is also going to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the front camera - a similar technology which we saw in the recently launched Mi 6X, also called as Mi A2.

The AI is expected to help deliver improved portrait photos, especially selfies taken from the front camera. The technology is also expected to deliver improved results in low-light conditions.

Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi has posted a bunch of teasers on Weibo, giving away key details of the smartphone. According to one of the teasers, the smartphone will feature a familiar design language of Redmi phones. Xiaomi Redmi S2 looks to have slim profile with volume and power buttons located on the right edge. The top has 3.5mm headphone jack. On the front, it has a taller display but with fair amount of bezels. The top has LED flash and camera sensor. On the back, it has a vertical dual-camera setup along with fingerprint sensor on the back.

Apart from the camera capabilities and overall design, details about the specifications of Redmi S2 have also been revealed ahead of the official launch. According to a listing on Aliexpress, Redmi S2 will come with a 5.99-inch HD display. The smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 processor. Redmi S2 will be available in multiple variants - 2GB, 3GB and 4GB RAM with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage respectively.

The highlight of the phone is going to be front camera which is confirmed to come with 16-megapixel sensor along with LED flash. Other key features of the phone include a 3,080mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, Redmi S2 will come with a dual-SIM slot with an additional slot of micro SD card.
