A Facebook-developed Android and iOS app is intended to help groups of friends make videos together.

Creating a video and hashtagging it with a topic allows friends to view it and then, if they choose to, add their own clips to the video.

That modified video can then be seen by friends' friends, and 'the potential pool of creative collaborators can grow exponentially from there.'

'A short video can become an inventive project between circles of friends that you can share to Facebook, or anywhere on the internet, at any time,' reads the fb.com blog post from Facebook Product Manager, Josh Miller.

The development follows on from interest surrounding Twitter-oriented live video app Meerkat and Twitter acquisition Periscope.

Twitter's looped video sharing app Vine debuted in January 2013, with Facebook acquisition Instagram rolling out an Instagram Video feature in June of the same year.
