Samsung is set to unveil its latest flagship smartphones, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at the much-awaited 'Unpacked' event in Barcelona on February 25, a day before the Mobile World Congress begins.

Ahead of the official release, leaked images, renderings and specification details have made their ways to the internet, giving us a rough idea on what to expect from the new Samsung phones. Based on the leaked images so far, Samsung Galaxy S9 will fix a major problem that its predecessor faced - fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 phones featured the fingerprint scanner just next to the camera module, making it difficult for users to use the scanner without smudging the camera lens.

Prior to Galaxy S8-series, Samsung used to place the fingerprint scanner on the front. But with Infinity Display (edge-to-edge screen) becoming a standard affair on its flagships, Samsung had to shift the scanner to the back.

It's worth noting that at one point Samsung was rumoured to ditch the fingerprint scanner altogether in favour of in-screen sensor and iris scanner. Samsung's supplier Synaptics, however, couldn't deliver the right solution, according to reports.

While Samsung drew flak for the scanner placement, a few suggested using a case to bring a separation between the camera and sensor. Some users also pointed out facing difficulties while setting up the fingerprint scanner.

Galaxy S9, however, is going to have the scanner shifted to under the camera setup.

The setup is expected to be similar to the one we saw on Galaxy A8+, an affordable premium smartphone with an Infinity Display. Galaxy A8+ has the scanner under the camera setup and is wide enough to capture maximum portion of fingerprints for unlocking the phone.
