Not afraid to integrate some of the series' most recent highlights, a new trailer for 'Sonic Lost World' shows off some of Sonic's transformative powers.

With the right power-up, sonic can turn into an eagle, an asteroid, a drill, a laser, a rocket -- and here's where you get concerned that the 'Lost World' devs might have eaten one too many Fruit Loops -- a musical note.

And where the Mario franchise has split off into 2D and 3D sub-series with 'New Super Mario Bros' on the one hand and 'Super Mario Galaxy' and 'Super Mario 3D Land' on the other, 'Sonic Lost World' combines 2D and 3D sections just as in 'Sonic Colors' and the more recent 'Sonic Generations.'

But some fans of 'Sonic Generations,' which launched on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 3DS and Windows PCs, might need to skip 'Sonic Lost World.'

Just like 'Sonic Colors,' 'Lost World' is to be another feather in Nintendo's cap, launching exclusively on the portable 3DS and the latest home console, the Wii U, once it arrives the week of October 22.
