Xbox One S, Microsoft’s first disc-free gaming console to launch on May 7: Report

The rumoured Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will come with 1TB storage and Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft pre-installed.

Microsoft will reportedly launch its disc-less console on May 7. It is expected to be called the 'Xbox One S All-Digital Edition".

Microsoft was first reported to launch its disc-free console in April, with shipping starting in May. A new report by Windows Central suggests the console will officially launch on May 7.

Windows Central who have reportedly had their hands on some leaked documents, the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition carries a similar look as the present Xbox One S. The only thing missing is the disk drive obviously along with the eject button. When launched, the disc-free Xbox One S will come bundled with games like Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, and Minecraft. This console will pack 1 TB HDD.

In addition to this, Microsoft will also reportedly give users to choose the games for their console. This option will allow users to pick the pre-installed games before the console arrives. It isn't clear if Microsoft will bundle its subscription service, Xbox Game Pass along with the console.

Microsoft going all digital with its upcoming console, the pricing is also expected to go down. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition could be Microsoft's cheapest console offering till date. There's still no word from Microsoft on the launch date or a disc-free console at all.

In related news, Microsoft is also working on its cloud-based streaming service, Project xCloud scheduled to launch later this year. Microsoft was also clear on plans of still making consoles despite its cloud streaming service for games.
