Xiaomi on Thursday launched its second selfie smartphone in India. Called Xiaomi Redmi Y2, the phone was recently launched in China as Redmi S2. The smartphone starts at ₹9,999 for the base variant, and ₹12,999 for the top model. It will be available on June 12 via Amazon India, mi.com and Mi Home stores.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes in a metallic finish in three colours of gold, dark grey and pink. All units of Xiaomi Y2 will be manufactured in India as part of the company's 'Make in India' policy.

On the first sale day of Redmi Y2, consumers will get instant discount of ₹500 on ICICI credit and debit cards. Airtel users will get instant cashback of ₹1,800 and up to 240GB of free data from June 12 onwards.
Xiaomi's budget selfie series debuted in India last year with Redmi Y1. In comparison, Redmi Y2 offers notable upgrades and improvements over its predecessor. Apart from a new design, the new phone comes with a better 16-megapixel AI-powered selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture. Features include auto HDR, AI Beautify 4.0, and AI portrait mode. It is accompanied with an LED selfie light for photos and videos.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Specifications
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ full screen display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood of the smartphone runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. In terms of memory, Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes in two variants of 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage and 4GB RAM plus 64GB. There's a microSD card slot for further expansion of storage.
Other than its selfie camera, Redmi Y2 also has a dual-camera setup at the rear which is a combination of 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel AI-powered sensors. On the software front, Redmi Y2 runs Android 8.1 Oreo based on MIUI 9.5.
Its connectivity options include dual SIM, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The smartphone also comes with a rear fingerprint sensor along with AI-based face unlock. Redmi Y2 is fuelled by a 3,080mAh battery.
