The new feature, coming later this year, will give movie makers the ability to manage their YouTube channels on the go with a smartphone or tablet.
However, that's just the start. As well as making it easier to run a YouTube channel on the go, the company is looking at ways to make content creation ever easier and more relevant to an increasingly global audience.
At the moment, the biggest generator of revenue on the site is advertising, and although that isn't going to change, YouTube is looking to augment this with crowdfunding.
Channel owners and content creators will be able to run crowdfunding campaigns directly through the site (and manage them with the mobile app) in order to raise the money to pay for new productions.
Other upcoming features will include the ability to crowdsource captioning and subtitles.
In a video posted to the YouTube Creator's blog, outlining the site's future plans, Matt Glotzbach, YouTube's director of creator product management, revealed that 80 % of the site's viewers are now from outside the US and in order to help creators reach the largest possible audience, they will be able to turn to their fans for translations. The system will be able to support up to 60 languages.
