The Digital India AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge has received a total of 6,490 entries across eight categories so far, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced today.

“AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge, launched by PM Modi on 4th of July has seen a very enthusiastic response from tech entrepreneurs & startups from across country; a total of 6940 entries received across the 8 categories identified: Ministry of Electronics and IT, GoI,” ANI reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Digital India AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge last month in a bid to promote existing apps and encourage developers to build new ones. The challenge was launched by MeitY in partnership with MyGov, Atal Innovation Mission and Niti Aayog. It entailed building apps under eight broader categories, which include office productivity and work from home, social networking, e-learning, entertainment, health and wellness, business including agritech and fin-tech, news and games.

In the first part of the challenge, developers were tasked with building sustained tech solutions that would not only serve the country but also the world. The second part of the challenge sought to identify Indian startups, entrepreneurs and companies and help them with ideation, incubation, prototyping and rolling out applications.

Earlier, the government had set July 18 as the last date of submitting applications. This was later extended to July 26.

The results of the Digital India AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge on August 7. While the winner will get a cash prize of ₹20 lakhs, the apps that will bag the second and third spots will get cash prize worth ₹15 lakhs and ₹10 lakhs respectively.
