Apple's macOS 11.3.1 contains new security fixes: Here's why you need to update

Unlike some other security flaws that have been recently discovered, it appears that this security flaw could have already been misused by malicious attackers, so users should update immediately.

Last week, Apple finally released the macOS 11.3 update, which brought several performance improvements along with many security and bug fixes in tow. After informing macOS users that they should update in order to be protected from a major security flaw, Apple has released another important security fix with macOS 11.3.1 and urged users to update immediately.

The update to macOS 11.3.1 was released on Monday, reportedly fixes two issues that could result in users devices being compromised by allowing an attacker to execute malicious code remotely on their computer. This means that an attacker who wanted to take advantage of the security flaw could use dangerous commands on your computer.

Unlike some other security flaws that have been recently discovered, it appears that this security flaw could have already been misused by malicious attackers, who may have actively used it to target macOS users, according to the company’s changelog for the macOS update. This means users should update their devices immediately in order to receive protection from these security flaws.

Users who want to update their device running macOS 11.3 to the latest release should had over to About This Mac and then click on Software Update. It is probably a good idea to make sure you have at least 10 GB of space free on your hard drive while attempting to install the update. Apple may have fixed the upgrade bug on macOS 11.2 that prevented the update from completing due to lack of space – but it is better to be safe than sorry, especially when dealing with updates to a device used on a daily basis.
