Apple releases software updates with major security fixes

Apple has released iOS 14.5.1 and iOS 12.5.3, macOS 11.3.1 and watchOS 7.4.1 for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, respectively. The latest software updates come with critical security updates. There are two iOS updates for older and newer iPhone models. Apple users are highly recommended to download and install the latest updates.

Apple’s latest software update covers older iPhones as well. iOS 12.5.3 is compatible with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation). iOS 14.5.1 and iPadOS 14.5.1 are available for iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation). watchOS 7.4.1 can be downloaded on Apple Watch Series 3 and later, while macOS Big Sur 11.3.1 is for macOS Big Sur.

Apple in its support pages for these devices noted that it has fixed two flaws in WebKit. It describes one flaw as “Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.” This led to a memory corruption issue that has been addressed with the latest update. The second one too had the same source and it caused an integer overflow. In the older iPhones, Apple fixed two more security flaws that caused a buffer overflow issue, and a use after free issue.
