Here's everything you need to know about Microsoft's recently announced Windows 10 21H1 update

Microsoft releases regular updates to its Windows 10 operating system which was originally released in July 2015. Since the operating system follows a rolling release model, it releases major updates twice a year. The first update is released in the first half of the year, and Microsoft has now announced it will release the 21H1 update “later in the first half of this calendar year.”

In an update posted to the company’s Windows blog, John Cable (head of Windows Servicing and Delivery) said that the 21H1 update will focus on improvements to Windows Hello multicamera support, Windows Defender Application Guard, and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) for improved remote working management for organisations.

Unlike other H1 updates that have been released by Microsoft, however, this update will install very quickly - almost like a monthly security update, Cable said. This is certainly news to most people because IT admins will have gotten used to Microsoft pushing a major update in the first half. Keep in mind, though, that Microsoft is reportedly working on a massive upgrade to Windows later this year, which is supposed to completely overhaul various components of the system, so you can expect a bigger update in the second half of the year.

Cable also said that the Windows 10 21H1 builds will be rolling out to beta testers today, while others should receive the stable update after the company finalises the update before the first half of the year is up. Microsoft is also expected to announce more details of its upgrades to Windows 10 in an event to be held in a few months.
