Microsoft fixes bothersome Windows 10 reboot bug

Microsoft recently fixed a rather bothersome bug related to scheduled reboots in Windows 10, months after the issue was first reported, allowing users to resume using their computers in an uninterrupted manner.

Windows users are quite used to having to reboot their computers after installing older software or drivers, or after successfully completing an upgrade of the system via Windows Update. However, the bug in question would reportedly warn them that the computer would restart in a minute, which leaves a user with very little time to save their data.

According to online reports, the company has issued a fix for computers that have the October 2020 update (also known as the 20H2 update) installed. However, there are several PCs and laptops out in the wild that did not get the 20H2 update, sometimes because of incompatible components or drivers.

The report states that the company seems confident that those issues with the older computers might be resolved, so Microsoft has decided to roll out the update to these PCs and laptops. It remains to be seen whether the plethora of devices running the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system will be able to run the new and upcoming features included inside. The bug fixes will roll out to computers over the next few weeks, shortly before the arrival of Microsoft’s new 2021 update to the operating system, also known as the 21H1 update.

Microsoft has also resolved another bug that prevented browsers from storing passwords and passphrases after a reboot according to reports, likely another pain point for users who rely on their browsers to remember their passwords. Affected users who do not want to wait for the update can simply switch over to a browser like Chrome or Firefox, to avoid any further issues with their passwords being deleted.
