Microsoft rolls out fix for Windows 10 update with printer issues

Microsoft has rolled out a fix for the latest Windows 10 update that had printer issues. Windows 10 users on this update who tried to use certain printers caused the blue screen to appear crashing the system altogether.

Microsoft has now rolled out a new Windows 10 update KB5001566 with a fix for this printer issue. “Addresses an issue that might cause a blue screen when attempting to print to certain printers using some apps and might generate the error, APC_INDEX_MISMATCH,” Microsoft explained in its release notes. You can download the new update by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then click Check for Updates. Your system will notify you anyway about the new update, and prompt you to install it.

This update is only to fix the printer issue caused with the previous version. If you’re already on the latest update then you can install this one which will download only the new fixes contained in this package. This issue was quite a menace as it just crashed the system whenever you tried to print something. Opening a print dialogue from Office or Notepad or any other program would show the blue screen with error messages like - “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart”.

It isn’t clear which printers were affected but according to user reports, brands like Kyocera, Ricoh and Zebra were impacted by it. Microsoft acknowledged the issue when it was discovered, and said it is working on a fix. The update is now available, and it’s best to get it installed on your Windows 10 PC.
