Microsoft urges Windows 10 users to upgrade from outdated version 1909 build

Nearly six years have passed since Windows 10 was released in July 2015 and Microsoft has been pushing out regular updates to its computer operating system since then, but since the company is not following some form of a ‘rolling release’ model, it usually stops supporting Windows versions beyond a particular date. The company is now telling users on the 2019 version to upgrade to a new version before it drops support later this year.

Users who are still running the now-outdated version 1909 of Windows 10 (also known as the November 2019 Update) are now seeing a message telling them their Windows 10 version “will reach end of service soon” and asking them to download the latest version of Windows 10 if they want to keep receiving updates, according to Windows Latest.

The update to the next ‘rolling’ version of Windows 10, is scheduled to arrive in May also known as the Windows 10 21H1 Update. Meanwhile, the Windows 10 version 1909 update will lose official support from Microsoft on May 11, so users should ideally update before that date has passed -- given how many security issues Microsoft has been dealing with lately, its best to make sure you’re eligible to receive as many security updates as possible.

As of today, the users who decide to update may receive the 20H2 update that was released last October, as it is currently the latest official version of Windows 10. However, if for some reason a user is running hardware that has compatibility issues, such as a buggy device driver or other outdated software, Windows could offer you the 20H1 update that was released in May last year.
