Windows 11 is ready but the world isn’t, Microsoft got too ambitious?

We have a lot to look forward to with the Windows 11 update. Not only just visual updates, the latest operating system has several under-the-hood performance upgrades and new features to make lives easier on our PCs. However, Windows 11 has a couple of stringent system requirements and as a result, most of the world is not ready for it, says a recent report.

A recent research report from Lansweeper paints a very grim picture for the world of Microsoft powered PCs. It says that there are about 30 million devices in almost 60,000 organizations and most of these PCs cannot install Windows 11. The reason is that they do not meet certain system requirements.

Windows 11 too much for most PCs

The basic requirements to run Windows 11 seem fine for most 6-7 year old PCs and even older. Most computers have the required 4GB of RAM and multi-core processors. However, almost 55.6% of the organisations in the study lack the supported processor from Microsoft’s list. The other fifth (19.26%) lack the TPM 2.0 module, which enables certain security features.

In fact, almost 20% of workstations and 5% of physical servers lack the TPM 2.0 module, which is crucial to run Windows 11 officially. Do note that there is a way to run Windows 11 on most compatible PCs but that requires the user to tale responsibility of any drop in performance. This involves installing Windows 11 by manually downloading and installing the ISO file from Microsoft.

Microsoft adjusted the minimum requirements a few months ago by allowing PCs with 7th Gen Intel processors to be supported. However, the TPM module creates the biggest issue for most PC users.

Windows 11 releases on October 5 and will be released in batches to compatible PCs across the world over the next few weeks. Those users unable to wait longer can simily download and try the beta version.
