Windows 11 in its latest update brings new emojis! Not normal for a desktop OS when you think about it, right? Microsoft, however, wants Windows 11 to be your one-stop shop for most of your communication needs and before it brings Android apps to Windows, it wants to get the emojis right. The Emoji 13.1 set arrives on Windows 11 along with the 2D emojis.

The update brings the Windows 11 build number to 22000.348 and issues several bug fixes as well. If you were experiencing issues with the fonts, audio, and other weird issues, you should head for the Windows Update option in Settings and get the update immediately.

Windows 11 gets emojis and more

The star of this update, however, are the new and controversial emojis. Earlier this year, Microsoft demonstrated 3D emojis for Windows 11. These were the same regular emojis but with a slight 3D twist to make them look interesting. However, the beta builds showcased a flat version of these and the final build also gets these 2D emojis.

Not that these 2D emojis look bad; in fact, the material design-inspired cartoonish emojis actually go well with the design ethos of Windows 11. That said, expectations are still resting on Microsoft to deliver those cool 3D emojis in Microsoft apps such as Teams and Office.

Emoji design preference is subjective and we leave it upon you. However, Microsoft seems to prepping the basics before it releases support for Android apps. And with Android apps, people are expected to more likely use their social media apps on their PCs.

One of the biggest highlights with Windows 11 this year is the native support for Android apps; something that was previously possible with third-party emulators only. Microsoft isn't hosting its own Android app store though; it is partnering with Amazon to bring its app store into the Microsoft Store. At the launch event, Windows 11 was shown to run apps like TikTok and Instagram natively as Windows apps.
