Windows 11 features are crashing! It has been barely a month since Microsoft released Windows 11 to the public and it hasn’t been exactly smooth sailing. First, there was the AMD PC performance issue and now, there’s the case of expired certificates. As a result, many Windows 11 users have reported several features failing; the most popular ones being the Snipping Tool and the Emoji picker.
Microsoft says that these issues can be attributed to an expired certificate. A fix is on the way but there’s no immediate respite for all of them. A patch has been issued to fix some of them. Called KB4006746, it will fix the touch keyboard, voice typing, emoji panel, and issues with the getting started and tips sections of Windows 11.
However, there’s no reported fix for the Snipping Tool crash. Microsoft is still working and as a workaround, it has suggested users to try the old school “Print Screen” way. Users can simply hit the “Prt Scn” key and paste the screenshot directly on a document or on MS Paint.
The issue seems to be limited to a few users at the moment. We currently have two Windows 11 PCs at our disposal and none of them are exhibiting any such issues. The Snipping Tool app is working fine and so is the emoji picker.
This issue is mostly attributed to the expired certificates and not bugs on Windows 11. However, a few weeks ago, it was discovered that Windows 11 was crippling AMD powered PCs across the globe with reduced performance. Both Microsoft and AMD acknowledged and came up with a solution within days. Users had to download the latest Windows 11 updates to get their AMD PCs back to normal.
Currently, Windows 11 is available as a free download to most Windows PCs running on the newest hardware from Intel and AMD. Slightly older PCs are yet to get the Windows 11 update but if your PC is compatible with the Windows update, you can try its Release Preview by signing up for the Windows Insider Programme.
