Google Pixel 5a 5G to feature Snapdragon 765G chipset

Google is expected to launch the next Pixel phone on June 11. It’s going to be the Pixel 5a 5G, successor to last year’s Pixel 4a. Google confirmed the launch by responding to reports of the Pixel 5a getting canceled. A new leak now reveals the Pixel 5a 5G will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor.

This new detail about the Pixel 5a 5G’s chipset was found in the latest Android 12 Developer Preview by 9to5Google. There are numerous references to the Pixel 5a’s codename “Barbet” and the model number sm7250 which is for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset. This is the same chipset used in the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5 that launched last year. It’s interesting to see how exactly the Pixel 5a 5G will be different from the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 since all three have the same chipset. It may also turn out to be confusing for consumers. Google is expected to launch the Pixel 6 later this year which will most likely use a faster chipset.

Google will release the Pixel 5a 5G first in the US and Japan, and around the same time as last year’s a-series. Google launched the Pixel 4a in September but the rumoured launch date for Pixel 5a 5G is June 11. There’s still no official confirmation on the launch date yet.

As for the phone, leaked renders revealed a design very similar to the Pixel 4a 5G with a punch-hole display that is said to be slightly taller and thicker as well. Pixel 5a 5G is also expected to feature the same cameras as its predecessor.
