Google rolls out January update with bug fixes for Pixel phones

Google has rolled out the Android January security update for Pixel smartphones. This update brings lots of bug fixes for issues in audio, display, sensors and telephony for Pixel phones.

The new January update is available for Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. Google retired the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL last month after rolling out the final updates. The new update should fix a number of issues on the Pixel phones. It brings further tuning and improvements for volume level of system sounds on the Pixel 5. Another audio issue in Pixel 4a 5G that causes speaker noise in certain scenarios should be fixed with this update.

This update also adds improvements to auto-brightness response in certain lighting conditions for the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 series. For the entire lineup from the Pixel 3, this update fixes intermittent restarts in certain apps. It should also help improve auto-rotation response in certain device orientations for the Pixel phones. Lastly, this update comes with a “fix for issue preventing calls on certain MVNO networks.”

Google has started the rollout in a phased manner for these Pixel phones globally. Once the update arrives, a notification will be sent for the same. Users can manually check for the update through the software update section in the settings menu. The update also requires these Pixel phones to be updated to Android 11.
