Huawei to launch a Harmony OS based smartphone in 2021

Huawei has been betting big on its Harmony OS as has been working on bringing it at par with rival OS from Apple and Google. The OS has been pitched to feature a versatile UI that can run uniformly on smartphones, TVs, wearables and other products. And with the ongoing tension between US-China, the company has been facing some difficulties with Android and Google Play Store. However, the company plans to solve this once and for all by launching a phone that runs on Harmony OS.

This piece of news comes from MyFixGuide website. It has been reported that the new Harmony OS based smartphones will be coming in 2021. This was apparently confirmed by Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer group. The information also comes a few days before the commencement of 2020 Huawei Developers Conference (HDC). The firm even plans to launch Harmony OS powered smartwatches this year.

Yu has added that Huawei is ready with a Harmony OS smartphone but has not been able to launch it considering it was already in an agreement with Google.

Until now, we have seen Harmony OS only in TV sets.

However, its not just software but hardware too, where the firm has its focus. In a report from last year it as reported that Huawei will launch a handset that has an all-screen in-display fingerprint tech. It is not just working on an all screen fingerprint display, which is not really seen in any mass-produced smartphone for now, but is also working to make it coexist with in-screen cameras. “We are working to make it [all-screen fingerprint – ed] co-exist with in-display selfie cameras,” says Huawei in an emailed response to Android Authority.
