Onlookers watch as man jumps into icy harbour to save submerged iPhone XS

It has already been two days since Valentine’s Day, but a Canadian man will probably remember it for many years to come - after he jumped into icy water in an act of exceeding bravery to save his submerged iPhone XS, while onlookers captured it on video.

According to Victoria Buzz, Roman Czarnomski, a resident ofBritish Columbia was taking photos early in the morning on February 14 and dropped his phone in the Victoria Inner Harbour. He then returned later that morning and saw his phone right where it had fallen into the harbour. It had spent much over the 30 minutes that Apple has advertised the phone can survive underwater at two metres with its IP68 rating.

In a video captured by an onlooker that was later shared by the site on Twitter, Czarnomski stripped down to his boxers and dipped his toes in the icy cold water of the harbour, appearing to give in a seconds thought and then plunged in. Only bubbles were seen for moments, then he reappeared, holding the phone in his hand.

“I dropped my phone the night before. Then grabbed it the next day when the tide was low. It was refreshing,” Czarnomski told Victoria Buzz. If you’re wondering whether the iPhone was still working spending a freezing night underwater - it did. “I had a feeling it would work. I wasn’t really sure though until it buzzed in my pocket when the guy who took the videos sent them to me after I got out,” the British Columbia resident added.
