This Google Pixel 4a replacement could make you forget Pixel 6

The Google Pixel 4a has been around in India for a while and is ageing faster. However, Google released the Pixel 5a globally with minor enhancements this year and if the latest leaks of the Pixel 6a are to be considered, Google is planning massive changes for the entry-level Pixel 6a. Leaks have revealed a familiar Pixel 6-esque design and some specs.

The Pixel 6a renders show a design familiar to the Pixel 6, which launched a few weeks ago. Based on the information from 91Mobiles and OnLeaks, the Pixel 6a will go upmarket this year with the same glass-metal body design, and the same visor-style camera hardware. Even the colour options seem to be similar to the Pixel 6.

The phone is expected to feature a 6.2-inch OLED display with a centered punch-hole camera cutout and an in-display fingerprint sensor. There's no mention of whether Google will include a high refresh rate 90Hz display similar to the Pixel 6.

On the rear, the phone is shown to hold a dual camera setup, with the leak suggesting the presence of a Samsung 50MP GN1 sensor for the primary camera. The second camera could have an ultra-wide lens but the sensor is still unknown.

The report also goes onto speculate that Google could bring a toned-down variant of the Tensor chip for the Pixel 6a to keep the Pixel 6 family in continuity. Other rumours have also suggested Google settling for the more popular Snapdragon 778G chip in a bid to keep the costs low.

Other crucial bits of information such as the battery capacity, charging, and expected pricing are still unknown. Additionally, there's no idea on whether Google plans to bring the Pixel 6a to India next year. In a previous report, Google clarified that India will see more Pixel smartphones in the future despite the Pixel 6 not making it to India.

Currently, the Pixel 4a is the only Google smartphone that sells in India. The Pixel 4a launched in late 2020 and its price fluctuates between ₹27,000- ₹33,000 throughout the year. Google only launched the Pixel Buds Series A earbuds in India this year.
