An iPhone with USB-C port? iPhone 14 could make it a reality

An iPhone with USB-C? That dream has sailed for a long time despite the iPads and MacBook laptops having them for years. Just as Apple fans begin to give up the hope, a new rumour emerges that talks about the possibility of a USB-C port on the next iPhone. Yes, if there is an ounce of truth in this rumours, we could see an iPhone 14 with the fabled USB-C port.

Based on the recent tip from tipster LeakApplePro on iDropNews, Apple is considering a move to the USB-C port for the next-gen iPhone 14 series. In the typical Apple fashion though, the company could provide it only on the iPhone 14 Pro variants; the regular iPhone 14 models may miss out on USB-C once again.

Note that this is just an unconfirmed leak. Hence, you should take this with a pinch of salt. Apple is yet to comment on this.

iPhone 14 with USB-C?

The demand for USB-C on the iPhones has been there for a long time. The current-gen Lightning port on Apple devices is restricted to USB 2.0 speeds, which might not be an issue for regular users. However, Pro users shooting ProRes videos seek faster transfer speeds that is already available with the new iPad models.

Moreover, Apple has been subject to scrutiny by the European Union in a bid to cut down on the e-waste. Apple is the only manufacturer that relies on its proprietary charging port; all other brands have been on USB-C ports since years.

Combined with this leak, it seems possible for Apple to make the move to USB-C next year. That said, rumours have also painted a picture of Apple going for a port-less design on future iPhones, with the MagSafe charging being the first step in that direction. However, Apple still has no alternate solution for fast wireless data transfers, except for AirDrop on its ecosystem of devices.

Currently, the 2021 iPad Air and iPad Pro models are the only iOS-ecosystem devices getting the USB-C treatment. Apple's latest iPhone 13 models as well as the AirPods 3rd Gen still rely on the older slower Lightning Port.
