Apple AirTags are now misbehaving, sending FALSE alarms to iPhone users

Apple AirTags are misbehaving after getting the latest anti-stalking measures! Based on a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the AirTag trackers are sending phantom alerts to their owners, thereby confusing users. Simply put, iPhone users are getting alerts of an AirTag tracking their location, even when there is no story AirTag in the vicinity. The alerts are usually occurring the middle of the night and Apple is yet to rollout a fix for the same. The issue is causing distress among iPhone users.

These false alarms are usually happening in the middle of the night, wherein the person’s iPhone receives an unknown AirTag alert. An accompanying map also shows the location of the tracker and how long has it been tracking your whereabouts. In this case though, the users have reported to see straight lines emerging from the person’s location. This is not supposed to happen and seem like a bug that kept past Apple during the software development phase.

AirTag trackers are misbehaving

The alarms are part of Apple's new suite of anti-stalking features. A few months ago, the AirTag earned a notorious reputation of being a stalker’s favourite gadget. Reports emerged about stalkers using AirTags to track the location of people, and following them home. The trackers were also used in car robbery attempts, wherein the AirTags were found stuck to wheels and bumpers. Apple had to quickly come up with a solution and introduce some anti-stalking features to prevent this from happening.

One of the ways was to alert an iPhone user faster than ever. This feature now seems to have accompanied a new bug that is alerting users unnecessarily. In a report from The Verge, they say that the AirTag’s safety feature malfunctioned when their iPhone notified that their own AirTag was stalking them. Additionally, the there have been other reports of AirPods doing the same thing.

What remains to be seen is how Apple plans to fix the issue. It has been a while since the AirTag has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Apple’s sophisticated tracker device has been causing issues with users around the globe, and a permanent fix is yet to come for all its related issues.

The AirTag tracker is sold in India with a starting price of Rs. 3,190 for the single pack and Rs. 10,900 for the four-pack.
