Apple iOS 14 beta 2 rolls out: Apple Music gets animated artwork, new privacy features and more

Apple has released the second developer beta of iOS 14. The latest update brings visual changes to native apps on iOS 14 and some other features as well.

Apple has changed the Calendar app icon in iOS 14 beta 2 with the day now abbreviated. For example, Tuesday is now displayed as ‘Tue’. The Clock icon has also been updated with bolder hour and minute hands. Apple made moving widgets to the home screen possible on iOS 14. 

In this beta update it has added a new Files widget that can be added to the home screen. Apple has made a change which prevents users from opening .shortcuts files in the Shortcuts app.

The App Library which categorises apps for a more cleaner look on iOS 14 has received a delete function. So users can now delete apps from the App Library itself. Previously this option was “Remove” and it has now been changed to “Delete”.

Apple Music has a good number of changes in iOS 14 beta 2. Apple has added haptic feedback for the play, pause, next and back buttons on the Apple Music’s ‘Now Playing’ screen. The bottom bar of Apple Music has gone through some changes with the icons reshuffling and ‘For You’ tab being replaced by ‘Listen Now’. Apple Music is also showing animated artwork for some artists. There’s even an option to disable the animated artwork.

Apple also shows a privacy warning for Wi-Fi networks that don’t use Private Wi-Fi Address. Another privacy update in iOS 14 beta 2 is Apple showing which apps have accessed the iPhone’s camera or mic in the Control Center. The app will be named along with the icon of the camera or mic.

Apple’s iOS 14 beta is currently out only for developers. The public beta version of iOS 14 is also slated to be released this month. As for the stable release, you can expect it sometime in September.
