But at around noon on Saturday, Snapchat wrote a detailed news blog on the new product and also released the video officially.

"Spectacles are sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories," Snapchat wrote in its blog.

"Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer your Memories directly into the app in our brand new circular video format.

Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view. We can't wait for you to see it!" the statement said.

Snapchat video sunglasses, reportedly called as 'spectacles', will be available for purchase this fall, the company's CEO Evan Spiegel had told the Wall Street Journal in an interview on Friday.

It will be a 'one-size-fit-all' issue with a 115-degree-angle lens and the output will be 'circular, more like human vision', Spiegel told WSJ.

According to reports it can record up to 10 seconds of video and will be available in three colours - black, teak and coral. It may cost around 8670 ($129.99).

According to a Tech Crunch report, Snapchat has hired developers from major augmented reality groups like Microsoft's HoloLens, PTC's (formerly Qualcomm's) Vuforia and eye-tracking tech maker Eyefluence to make Snapchat's pair of "smart" glasses.

The company showed interest when Google launched Glass. Snapchat later bought Vergence Labs, which produced a pair of glasses equipped with an embedded camera for $15 million in March 2014.

Snapchat soon bought Scan.me for $50 million, a QR code-scanning/creating technology that would later manifest itself it the company's Snaptags feature.
