TikTok gets a dedicated app on Samsung smart TVs

TikTok has launched a new app for Samsung smart TVs. The new TikTok TV app is compatible with 2018 and newer Samsung smart TV models, and it will come pre-installed on all new models. TikTok is rolling out its new TV app to users in the UK first.

The TikTok app on Samsung smart TVs has an interface almost the same as the mobile app. The app shows the ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ feed on TikTok, and also the most liked and viewed videos. TikTok will also display videos based on 12 categories including gaming, comedy, food and animals. The categories will appear in a tray at the bottom of the screen. TikTok videos will also play in the vertical format as it does on the mobile app.

In addition to watching videos, users will also be able to like and comment on trending videos, and even block or mark content they’re not interested in. The app can be downloaded from the Samsung Smart TV App Store, and it can be used even without a TikTok account. TikTok’s TV app is compatible with all Samsung smart TVs from 2018 but it looks like the perfect fit for The Serif that can be rotated to a vertical frame.

This isn’t TikTok’s first venture into smart TVs as it recently launched a Fire TV app called ‘More for TikTok’. The Fire TV is however, different as it displays content curated by TikTok editors, and features interviews with popular TikTok creators. This app is also strictly for viewing only, and users can’t like or comment on videos.
