Sony announced its next-generation gaming console the Sony PlayStation 5 last month. Shortly after that, that is around November 19, PS5 went on sale in the global markets except India. Sony has announced the prices for the PS4 successor in India, but it hasn't announced the date of availability for its newly launched gaming console yet.

This has anguished fans and gamers across the country, who have expressed their grievance over this delay all over social media. Sony India, reacting to these grievances, has given a half-baked statement wherein it has stated that its teams are working to sort out the matter. You can read the entire statement by the company here:

And so the question remains, why isn't Sony bringing the PS5 to India yet?

Well, there can be a couple of reasons for this. First is the availability of PS5 stocks. Sony has confirmed that it is facing an unprecedented demand for the PS5 and that it is stocking up the PS5 inventory so that it can meet the growing demands of retailers all around the world. You can check a detailed statement by the company here.

Second is the pandemic. The year 2020, as you all know, has been marred by the Covid-19 pandemic. Every sector, every aspect of life as we know it has been disrupted. This is true for the PS5 supply chain as well, which we know is facing a higher than ever demand.

Third is the chip. The Sony PS5 is powered by AMD Zen 2 processor. As pointed out by MySmartPrice, AMD is also making Zen 3 SoC and that all of these chips are being made by TSMC, which is high production demand as it tries to deliver new orders and recover from the impact of the pandemic. Simply said, a slow inflow of CPUs means fewer PS5 consoles available in the market.

Fourth is PS4. As shocking as it sounds but the extraordinary sale of PS4 could be one of the reasons why Sony isn't launching PS5 in India yet. Sony's head of PlayStation Business in India, Prosenjit Ghosh, as per a Mint report has said that PS4 sales have doubled in India during the pandemic compared to 2019. So, Sony could be delaying the launch of PS5 in India as it wants to extend the PS4 lifecycle in India.

All said and done, we don't have a launch date for PS5 in India yet. And if reports are to be believed the company's newly launched gaming console wouldn't launch in India until January 2021.

Meanwhile, you do manage to get your hands on PS5 in India before its official launch in India you might lose the warranty. So, you might want to hold off on asking your friends and family members to get you one from the markets abroad.
