T H Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh, and M T Liao, all hardware engineers at Acer, founded Asus, a computer hardware and consumer electronics firm based in Taiwan, in 1989. Asus surpassed IBM as the world's biggest motherboard manufacturer ...in 1995. Asus is widely credited with propelling Taiwan to the forefront of the global computer hardware industry. The firm went public in 1996 and began trading on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. It opened service centres in the Netherlands, China, the United States, the Czech Republic, Australia, and Japan in the year 2000.
In 2006, the firm launched Republic of Gamers (ROG). The business debuted its first gaming-grade motherboard, the ROG Crosshair, as a sub-brand. Asus restructured its business in 2008, separating into three separate companies: Asus, Pegatron, and Unihan Corporation.
The first smartphones based on the Android operating system from Asus were released in 2014. These phones used Intel CPUs instead of the ARM processors seen in most other Android phones. It's also working on virtual and augmented reality products, as well as internet of things (IoT) gadgets and robotics. In 2018, Asus released Zenbo, a smart home robot that is intended to provide aid, entertainment, and companionship to families.
