We had reported in March that the Cupertino company had rushed out a quick security update in the form of iOS 14.4.2 to fix other bugs with the WebKit browser engine, while it continued to work on the stable iOS 14.5 release. At the time, we had recommended users update to the latest version as soon as possible.

The report also states that the most dangerous of these flaws was a “use-after-free memory corruption bug in the browser engine used by Apple. “Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited,” the company's security advisory says.

If it is device stability you are worried about, you can rest assured that the update to iOS 14.5 is as stable as it gets. Given the number of changes added to the update, Apple released eight beta versions for testers and developers to find bugs or odd behaviour before finally issuing the update on Monday. So far, there have been hardly any reports of the update causing issues on users iPhones if they're upgrading from iOS 14.3 or iOS 14.4 so you might as well install the update right away after you take a device backup.
