Korean handset maker Samsung took the battle to Apple, that too on its own turf. The company unveiled its much-awaited Galaxy S4 phone in New York, USA. Android fans, however, will have to wait till the end of April to get their hands on the product. The company also chose to stay mum on its pricing and when it will be made available in India.

Talking to reporters at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall, JK Shin, Samsung president and head (IT and mobile communications), said that following the successful Galaxy S series, this phone is yet another "great proof point of people-inspired innovation". The phone features a five-inch full HD super AMOLED touchscreen, 1.9 GHz quad-core processor, 13 megapixel back and 2MP front camera and supports both 3G and 4G networks. New features of the phone include 'Smart Pause', where users can pause a video just by looking away from the screen, 'Smart Scroll' that allows you to scroll the browser or emails without touching the screen and 'Air View', in which one can preview content without opening it by just gesturing in the air.

Unusual launch
The launch of the Galaxy S4 was also as unusual as it gets. Even as lakhs tuned in for the unveiling of the phone, Samsung decided to launch it with a bizarre and over-the-top Broadway production that featured a tap-dancing kid, a ballerina, a housewife and a gardener. The show went viral instantly on YouTube and eclipsed the launch of the phone as tweeple joked about how weird it was.

Live debut
With millions of smartphone users looking forward to the launch, Samsung live-streamed the event on YouTube. More than 4,23,000 viewers were tuned in when the phone was unveiled. Several reporters at the venue also live tweeted the happenings on Twitter.
