Discovery Channel, on the occasion of World Environment Day today, has decided to create a platform to highlight the works of five young filmmakers, Praveen Singh and Vikram Mishra (The Final Tide), Chandrashekhar Reddy (Don't Rubbish It), Arjun Pandey (The Change-makers) and Gurmeet Sapal (India's Climate Fever), who've made documentaries on various geological issues.
Apart from a special screening in Delhi today at the British Consulate, the movies will be screened on the channel later this month on June 25 between 8-10 pm. The movies are 12-15 minutes long.
These films had been winners at the UK Environment Film Fellowships Program 2009 because the research on them was intense and the topics chosen were relevant to the current times.
* The Final Tide
It talks about the impact of rising sea and mercury level on coastal population across the world.
* Don't Rubbish It
The movie suggests ways to reduce, reuse and recycle waste to mitigate climatic changes.
* The Change-makers
It speaks about how newly installed bio gas plants have brought about a revolution in the lives of rural women by reducing the dependence on traditional fossil fuel and wood.
* India's Climate Fever
This documentary keeps a check on the health security in our country in the midst of the global climatic threats.
