Chinese manufacturer Gionee has launched a new entry level smartphone in India called the Gionee P5W. Priced at 6,499, the smartphone sports a glossy plastic body and will be available in black, white, yellow, red and blue colour options.

In terms of specifications, the device sports a 5-inch HD display, a 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor bundled with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD slot. Optics on the smartphone include a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop coupled with Amigo 3.1 launcher. The smartphone also gets a new customised AMI lock feature, which allows users to scan their face unlock the phone within 0.5 seconds. Juicing up the smartphone is a 2,000 mAh removable battery that should keep things running throughout the day.

"The idea behind introducing P5W has been the youth and their fascination towards carrying bright colourful phones. P5W comes in exciting colour ranges from white, blue, red, yellow and black. The look and the feel of carrying the device have been thoroughly thought after. Aiming specifically at the youth of the country, we are sure that the device would gauge tremendous interest as like its predecessors," said Timir Baran Acharyya, general manager, Gionee India.
