The handset is thought to be the newest member of HTC's mid-range One series featuring a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, and 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. These specs suggest the handset will follow on from the One V design, and could function as an international version of the China-only New V Desire (T328w).

Little more, including the retail name, is known of HTC's 'Proto' handset though, as The Verge points out, there is a possibility that the handset will be unveiled at the upcoming IFA in Berlin, where several other major manufacturers -- including Samsung and Sony -- are expected to make big announcements.

IFA is one of the world's biggest consumer electronics fairs and is used as a launchpad for products by several manufacturers; highlights expected this year include the unveiling of Samsung's next-gen smart phone / tablet hybrid -- the Galaxy Note II -- and Sony's high-end mobile device the Xperia SL.
