Super Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat are the latest games to join the World of Video Game Hall of Fame. The two vintage video games will join the likes of Tetris, Grand Theft Auto III, Super Mario Bros and more.

Joining Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Kart is Microsoft Solitaire for this year's Video Game Hall of Fame. Inducted by the Strong National Museum of Play, the three games were chosen among competitors like Candy Crush Saga, Dance Dance Revolution, NBA 2K and Half-Life.

Nominations for the induction can be made by anyone, but the final winners are selected on opinions gathered from gaming experts including journalists and scholars.

Inspired by Kung Fu and action movies like 'Big Trouble in Little China', Mortal Kombat was launched way back in 1992 becoming a major hit in arcades. Developed by Boon and Tobias, Mortal Kombat is set on a fictional island in the Earthrealm. Mortal Kombat is still one of the most popular games with the latest edition 'Mortal Kombat 11' having released just last month.

The popular Nintendo game 'Super Mario Kart' was also launched in 1992. The kart racing video game is the first in the Mario Kart Series and exclusive to Nintendo. Super Mario Kart is slated for a mobile version later this summer. It was earlier supposed to release by end of March this year, but Nintendo delayed the launch.
