HMD Global has launched the Nokia 2, a new budget Android smartphone. Here’s how it compares with the popular budget Android smartphones such as Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Moto C Plus.

HMD Global, which owns the rights to use Nokia branding on mobile phones and tablets, on Tuesday launched a new smartphone. Called the Nokia 2, the smartphone is priced at Euro 99 (7,500 approximately) and will be available in select markets, including India from mid-November.

The latest addition to the budget smartphone options in the market, the Nokia 2 will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 4, Redmi 4A and Moto C Plus. The Nokia 2 boasts of aluminium design just like the Nokia 7 and comes with a 4,100mAh battery that is claimed to deliver two days of backup.

Nokia 2: Specifications, features

The Nokia 2 features a 5-inch HD display. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and is upgradable to Android Oreo. Just like other Nokia smartphones, the Nokia 2 is also scheduled to receive regular firmware and security upgrades. The new Nokia smartphone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 212 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 304 GPU. The smartphone comes with 8GB of built-in storage and supports expandable storage up to 32GB via a microSD card.

The Nokia 2 comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 5-megapixel selfie-camera. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, WI-FI and GPS. It is powered by a 4,100mAh battery.

Nokia 2 vs Xiaomi Redmi 4 vs Moto C Plus

As said earlier, the Nokia 2 will be taking on popular budget Android smartphones such as the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Moto C Plus.

Priced at 8,499, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with a 5-inch HD display. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. Other important features of the smartphone include a fingerprint reader, dual-SIM and VoLTE support.

The Redmi 4A, a stripped down version of Redmi 4, comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB storage and 3,120mA battery. The Redmi 4A is available for much lesser at 6,999.

The Moto C Plus is available online for 6,999. The smartphone comes with a 5-inch HD display. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat and is powered by a Mediatek MTK6737 processor along with 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of built-in storage and supports expandable storage up to 32GB via a microSD card. The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Powered by a 4,000mAh battery, the Moto C Plus supports 4G VoLTE, Dual-SIM, Wi-Fi and GPS.
