The first fruit of Electronic Arts' licensing deal with Disney appears to be an all-action 'Star Wars: Battlefront,' which received a 30-second teaser at the publisher's Electronic Entertainment Expo show on June 10.
A snowy vista littered with wreckage, red laser fire and classic pew-pew sound effects evokes the battle for Hoth, the icy setting for part of 'Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back,' before an AT-AT's giant mechanical foot stomps out of the blizzard, drawing the teaser to a close.
'Star Wars: Battlefront' was a fan-pleasing portion of EA's presentation, given the appetite for LucasArts' shelved shooter 'Star Wars: First Assault' and the more deeply troubled but even more highly anticipated 'Battlefront III.'
The game runs on a Frostbite 3 engine developed by Swedish studio DICE, responsible for the 'Battlefield' series of games, which combine air, land, and sea combat.
Other Frostbite games shown at EA's E3 presentation included 'Dragon Age: Inquisition,' third in a series of fantasy adventures, due late 2014, and said to sport a medieval French feel amid its Tolkienesque setting, and 'Mirror's Edge,' a boldly colored, parkour-loving prequel to the well-received, same-titled game of 2008.
