Taxpayers facing issues in accessing Income Tax Dept portal; Infosys reacts

Taxpayers are facing issues in accessing the new Income Tax Department e-filing portal. Know the reason behind and what Infosys said.

Taxpayers are facing difficulties or issues in accessing the new Income Tax Department (ITD) portal. According to the Income Tax Department, Infosys has informed that they have observed some irregular traffic on the portal. It further said that proactive measures are being taken for the same. "It has been noticed that taxpayers are facing issues in accessing ITD e-filing portal. As informed by @Infosys, they have observed some irregular traffic on the portal for which proactive measures are being taken. Some users may be inconvenienced, which is regretted," The Income Tax Department tweeted.

It can be known that the new Income Tax e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in was launched on June 7, 2021. After the launch, the portal faced technical glitches for several weeks leading to taxpayers and professionals facing issues in filing returns or doing other activities. Recently the e-filing portal celebrated its first launch anniversary and many users complained that there were issues relating to the search functionality on the portal.

Informing about the same, the Income Tax Department tweeted, "Issue relating to the search functionality of the e-filing website has come to our notice. The Income Tax Department is seized of the matter. @Infosys has been directed to look into it & @Infosys has confirmed that they are resolving the issue on priority. @SalilParekh." Salil Parekh is the CEO of Infosys.

It can be noted that for the individual taxpayers, to whom tax audit is not applicable, the last date to file Income Tax Returns (ITR) for FY 2021-22 is July 31, 2022. If you have not yet filed your ITR you can do it online simply by visiting the official website of the Income Tax Department at incometax.gov.in. It can be known that based on your income earned per year and income sources like salary, business profit, among others, the procedure to file the ITR varies.

Also, to make the ITR filing process easy, you should keep all the documents required handy. The documents that are commonly required are copy of PAN card, copy of Aadhaar card, bank statement / bank passbook, among others.
