What will Apple unveil at the Worldwide Developers Conference?

The company's yearly conference for software and app developers will kick off on Monday with a Tim Cook keynote and expectations are building that Apple is set to unveil a number of new products as well as the usual updates to its desktop and smartphone operating systems.

Of course, as is always the case with Apple, the rumor mill is working overtime and if every item mentioned by every report were to materialize at this year's event -- from phablets to smartwatches and desktop-replacement tablets -- Cook's speech could run into days, let alone hours.

Still, speaking at this week's Code conference, Apple's SVP of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, said: 'Later this year, we've got the best product pipeline that I've seen in my 25 years at Apple.'

Added to this is the fact that apart from a slight refresh of its MacBook Air and the introduction of a cheaper 8GB iPhone 5C, Apple has so far unveiled nothing at all in 2014 and we're already six months into the year.

What won't be making an appearance at the event is a new iPhone. Thanks to a Deutche Telekom slip-up earlier this month, we know that like in 2013, the next smartphone will be coming in mid-September.

So, the most likely new products are going to be new iMacs including a cheaper, entry-level desktop using Apple's own processor, a new Apple TV and a new smart/connected home platform.

Staying with software, iOS 8 -- the latest update to the iPhone/iPad operating system -- is tipped to feature a suite of health, fitness and well-being apps and they in turn could shed some light on what the Apple iWatch is going to offer.

There is a chance that we may get a first glimpse of the product, rumors of which have been circulating for almost two years, but if it is indeed a real device, it is most likely to roll out alongside a new iPhone as they will need each other to work.
