Will your friends find out your SECRET if you make a Facebook Dating profile? Know now
While Facebook Dating offers a free to use dating portal with large user base, many people are concerned whether their Facebook profile will reveal their secret
Looking for a date is a sensitive topic for many. And most do not like to let others know that they are on a dating platform due to judgmental looks and the stigma attached to it in society. So, when Facebook came out with its dating portal called Facebook Dating in April 2021, naturally while people were curious, they were also concerned whether Facebook will display this information to friends, work colleagues and family. Well you can rest easy. Know that Facebook does not do any such thing and your Facebook dating profile will not be broadcast to anyone else. However, there are a few things you should also know.
Facebook Dating: the privacy dilemma
The good news is that Facebook does not add any post in the newsfeed or any notifications that can let others find out whether a user has a Facebook Dating profile or not. This means no information about Dating profile creation, Dating messages sent or who a user likes or matches with are kept private.
Additionally, Facebook Dating conversations and Facebook messenger chats have been kept separate from each other so there is no chance of a mix-up. You can think of Facebook Dating as a subset of your Facebook profile. This means while you can easily delete your Facebook Dating profile and still continue to use your Facebook profile, deleting your Facebook profile will result in automatic deletion of your Facebook Dating profile.
There is one word of caution, however. In the special situation that a user becomes friends with someone that they matched with on Facebook Dating, they will still be able to see the user's dating profile. But this is the only situation when a friend can see the dating profile - you both must be matched and friend on both Facebook profile and on Facebook Dating.
While Facebook Dating is available in India, a user needs to be above the age of 18 and have a Facebook account in good standing. While Facebook has not explicitly defined the term ‘good standing', it generally refers to following the community guidelines and not partaking in any illegal or inappropriate behaviour on the platform. If you qualify these two parameters, then go ahead and join Facebook Dating without worrying about any friend in your Facebook profile finding out.
