Apple M1 Macs outperform Intel-based Macs in terms of sales, says Cook

One of Apple’s key products during the ‘Spring Loaded’ virtual event was the new-designed iMacs. While many on social media talked about the new colours and how it all relates to the Mac G3 that came out years ago, there was a major under the hood improvement as well in the form of M1 chipset. These are the company’s first iMacs to feature M1 Silicon instead of Intel processors. But while talking about it, Apple CEO Tim Cook did mention a key piece of information that you may have skipped. As mentioned by Cook on stage (noticed by Macrumors), the company is now selling more M1 chipset Mac devices than Intel ones.

This means the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini that came out last year with M1 processors, are comprising the majority of Mac sales. Cook said that the ‌M1‌ Apple silicon "isn't just an upgrade, but a breakthrough," while boasting about iMac's customer satisfaction rate.

It is worth adding that in the same event, Apple also announced that it is putting the M1 chipset inside the new iPad Pro models as well.

While announcing the M1 chipset last year, Apple confirmed that it will take two years to transition from Intel to M1 chipsets for the entire Mac lineup. And with yesterday’s iMac announcement, the company is now selling a total of four product lines based on its own silicon. However, the firm still continues to sell 16 and 13-inch MacBook Pro, 21.5-and 27-inch ‌iMac‌, and the Mac Pro with Intel processors.

So, although M1 Macs outperforming Intel-based Macs in terms of sales might not sound like a big deal at the event, it may probably be stressed by Cook at the upcoming earnings call, which is to take place on April 28.
