Apple silently updated another Mac device, while it launched new iMacs on stage

Apple yesterday announced what we can call as one of the company’s biggest visual upgrades to the iMac. The new all-in-one iMacs are not just under 5kg but also have a slimmer profile and come in multiple colour variants as well. The biggest change comes in the form of the M1 processor, which Apple revealed last year in the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. However, there was another minor change made in the Mac lineup, something that didn’t find any stage time. As discovered by 9to5 Mac, Apple has quietly updated the M1 Mac mini with an optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet port. Until now, this was only available in the Intel version of the Mac Mini device.

You won’t see the feature boasted on the page right away. However, when you go for the customization, you can now see the device with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet option. The customization is not free though as Apple will charge you $100 for it. In India, the M1 Mac mini starts at ₹64,900 and the 10 Gigabit Ethernet customisation will add to the overall cost by ₹10,000.

Talking about Ethernet ports, Apple’s latest M1 iMacs will come with a new power brick that also includes a full-fledged Ethernet port. This can be really useful for those who want high-speed browsing but don’t have the port on their iMacs for it. In the new colourful iMacs, you only get a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C ports as the only interface. In addition, the power adapter has a magnetic connector that has a separate port to get connected.

One of the most obvious advantages of this is that it will reduce the cutter at the back of the iMac. It is also speculated that such power bricks with inbuilt Ethernet port, may arrive to other Mac devices as well, in future.
