CES 2021: Intel announces 11th-Gen Rocket Lake-S desktop processors, to arrive by mid-2021

At CES 2021 Intel today revealed its first 11th-Gen (Rocket Lake-S) range of chipsets for desktop. Called as the Core i9-11900K processor family, these will be arriving in the first quarter of 2021. They are said to have 19% higher IPC (Instructions Per Cycle), along with up to 50% better integrated graphics and AI performance.

The company has not yet revealed the entire range of 11th-Gen (Rocket Lake-S) chipsets, but it has indeed revealed that the Core i9 models will have eight core, 16 thread threads, along with boosted clock speeds of up to 5.3GHz. The processor is also set to support DDR4 Ram at 3200MHz along with a total of 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes and backwards compatibility with Intel's 400 series chipsets. 

Right now, there are no details on the pricing and the release date of the processors.

With 11th-Gen processors, Intel is sticking with 14nm model. However, they still include the Cypress Cove cores, which brings improvement from the 10nm core designs on to the 14 nm. This comes along with Intel's faster XE integrated graphics. 

Intel says that its Core i9-10900K processor which came out last year, had more cores because the 10nm chips are currently only designed for up to eight cores right now. However, the firm has promised that the overall performance of these new chipsets will be much faster.

In addition, a report from Bloomberg states that Intel will bring its 10nm server chips in the first quarter to convince customers that its manufacturing operations are recovering from long delays. The third generation of Xeon Scalable processors, codenamed Ice Lake, is undergoing a “volume ramp” on Intel’s 10-nanometer production, the company said Monday.
