Ryzen 6000 Zen 3+ mobile processors promise better battery life on slim laptops

Ryzen 6000 series processors are set to make thin and light laptops a lot more powerful this year! AMD has revealed more details on the Ryzen 6000 series mobile processors, which it says focuses greatly on power efficiency and increased performance density. This will allow general notebooks and slim gaming laptops to hold a lot of power without sacrificing battery life. Available in 15-28W, 35W, and 45W models, these processors are taking on the 12th Gen Intel P series chips unveiled last month.

The Ryzen 6000 series processors will debut by April 2022 on some popular laptops from various manufacturers, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HPO, Lenovo and Microsoft. AMD says that by the later part of 2022, we could be seeing Ryzen 6000 laptops boasting of 24-hours battery life, which is unheard of in a AMD powered laptop.

Ryzen 6000 series laptop processors are OUT!

The 6nm Ryzen 6000 series processors are based on the Zen 3+ architecture and relies on the RDNA 2 grapohcis architecture for its integrated graphics solution. This is the same architecture that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X use for their GPU. AMD promises good frame rates on modern-day gaming titles at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, although the graphics settings need to be toned down in most of them.

The Ryzen 9 and Ryzen 7 ‘Rembrandt' parts will offer the Radeon 680M integrated GPU with 12 render units. AMD says that basic performance of this integrated GPU will be comparable to the NVIDIA GTX 1650 MaxQ GPU. That is a tall promise and we will need to test it when it comes out. The Ryzen 5 CPUs will have Radeon 660M integrated graphics with 6 render units.

Compared to the previous generation Ryzen 5000 series, the new models are said to offer 1.3 times better CPU performance and 2 times better graphics performance for the 28W TDP power levels. Along with that, the processor will also deliver a three-hour extension on battery life.

AMD has also upgraded to PCIe 4.0 for increased bandwidth for discrete GPUs and SSDs. The CPU will require DDR5 (up to 6400MT/s) or LPDDR5 (up to 4800MT/s) RAM. AMD has also integrated Microsoft's Pluton security and encryption technology across the range. There's support for DisplayPort 2.1, UHBR10 adaptive sync, HDMI 2.1 (48Gb), Wi-Fi 6e, and Bluetooth LE 5.2.
