Samsung starts mass-producing 90Hz OLED screens for laptops, to launch it in Q1 2021

Looks like the pandemic is not stopping Samsung from innovating or mass-producing new technology that it recently showcased at CES 2021. Earlier this month, the company introduced OLED laptops with under display camera and 93% screen to body ratio. However, now Samsung Display has announced that it will start mass producing the world's first 90Hz OLED displays for laptops in the first quarter of 2021.

The release states that this new OLED display with high refresh rate will be aimed for customers in the online education, video streaming, gaming and telework segments. It will make tasks like gaming, movie watching more pleasurable. Boasting more about its 90Hz OLED screen, Samsung claims that the panel is 10x the fastest screen response time available in the market today.

The OLED screen also offers high speed driving, which is at par with that of the ones found in 120Hz LCD screens.

The company ads that it has tested blurred length, using the same motion picture of a fast driving car in both 90Hz OLED and 120Hz high refresh rate LCD screens with 0.9 mm and 1mm, respectively, indicating the 90Hz OLED screen in laptops have a very little smear and almost as the same rate as 120Hz LCD.

Samsung's new laptops with 14-inch 90Hz OLED displays will be reaching the markets starting March this year. The company says it will later expand to other screen sizes as well.

During the launch, the firm claimed that its new OLED laptops. deliver 120% DCI P3 colour gamut coverage, which is way more than the 74% DCI P3 coverage found in a conventional screen. Some other advantages mentioned were True black colours with 0.0005nits brightness along with a high contrast ratio of 1000000: 1.
