Two new iMac models hinted in latest macOS Beta software

Apple is already rumoured to launch new iMac devices later this year. While these have been talked about by analysts and tipsters already, a new piece of information now cements the speculations that there might be two new models coming soon. The latest information comes from macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta, which reveals two new iMac designations. As revealed by 9to5Mac, the OS version issues to developers includes identifiers "iMac21,1" and "iMac21,2," which are clearly new since both don’t match the existing iMac models.

It has been speculated that the "iMac21,1" and "iMac21,2" might be the codenames J456 and J457 for the upcoming iMacs. In a report from January, Bloomberg did mention these two iMacs as next-generation replacements for the current 21.5-inch iMac and 27-inch iMac, which were anyway said to get an upgrade this spring.

Based on previous rumours, the new iMacs are supposed to come powered by the new M1 or M1X chipsets. Reports have also indicated the new Macs to feature a redesigned chassis that borrows some flat looks from the current crop of iPhones and iPads. The device is also said to look similar to the Pro Display XDR monitor that Apple launched in 2019.

What adds as a fuel to fire is that Apple recently discontinued its iMac Pro desktop computer, followed by two iMac models. The firm discontinued two options of the 21.5-inch iMac computer on the online store. So, for now, you can only get hold of the 256GB storage model for the 12.5-inch iMac. This came along with 1TB and 512GB models, both of which are no longer available.
