Vaio laptops to make a comeback in India soon

Sony’s Vaio laptops are making a comeback in India soon. The new Vaio laptops have been teased on Flipkart with more details expected to be revealed in the coming days. Sony Vaio was one of the most popular laptop series years back but the company had to sell it off in 2014 as the company moved its focus on mobile devices.

The new Vaio laptops will be offered by Hong Kong-based Nexstgo, according to a report by Zee Business. Nexstgo and Vaio have reportedly signed a licensing agreement where the former will handle the manufacturing, sales, marketing and servicing of Vaio laptops. Nexstgo plans on bringing “a wide range of finest-quality laptops” to India in the next three months.

“The brand has previously witnessed unrivalled demand from the Indian market, and we believe that the country’s burgeoning tech-enthusiasts and young business professionals will be elated to experience VAIO’s premium solutions once again,” Alex Chung, CEO, Nexstgo was quoted as saying by Zee Business.

There are no details on what the new Vaio series of laptops has to offer. The Flipkart teaser only hints at light-weight laptops as it carries the tagline “Lighter than your past.” The entry of Sony Vaio laptops comes at a time when the PC and laptop market in India is very competitive with multiple options from popular and leading brands like Asus, Dell, Lenovo, HP and Acer. There have been newer players like Xiaomi entering the laptop market in India. It’s interesting to see what the new Vaio laptops have to offer, and if its brand popularity still exists.
